Website redesign and rescue
An old, slow or clunky site made modern, quick and easy to use — without throwing away what already works, and without losing your place in Google.
Signs your site needs some help
- It's slow to load, especially on a phone
- It looks dated next to your competitors
- It's awkward to use on mobile — tiny text, fiddly menus
- Enquiries have dried up and you're not sure why
- It's been hacked, or is showing security warnings
- Nobody quite knows how it works any more
Keeping what works
A redesign shouldn't mean starting from zero. Before changing anything I look at what's already earning its keep — pages that rank in Google, content customers rely on, addresses other sites link to — and make sure it carries across. Where page addresses change, the old ones are redirected so nothing breaks and search rankings aren't lost.
What a rescue can include
Modern redesign
A fresh, clean look that fits your business today, with clearer navigation built around how people actually use the site.
Speed-ups
Slimming down heavy pages, images and scripts so the site loads quickly — good for visitors and good for Google.
Mobile fixes
Layouts, text and buttons that work properly on a phone, which is where most of your visitors are.
Security clean-ups
Getting a compromised or neglected site safe again. I've dealt with a serious server hack first-hand, so I know how to clean up properly and stop it happening again.
Moving off WordPress
Many small-business sites don't need a full content management system and all the updates and plugins that come with it. Moving to a fast static site can make it quicker, safer and cheaper to run — I recently did exactly that for my own Tech Help site, keeping every page address and its Google listing intact.
