Thousands of specks of light, holding hands.
Move your pointer (or finger) over the sphere and the dots part to let you through. Click to send a ripple round it, or drag to give it a spin.
How it works
There's no video here. Every dot is placed in your browser when the page opens, most of them on the skin of the sphere and a few floating inside it, and your graphics card moves all of them at once, sixty times a second. That's why the edge glows: you're looking through more dots there.
Effects like this make a lovely opening for a launch page, a tech product or an event, and they're kind to phones: smaller screens get fewer dots, and if your device asks for less motion, the sphere stays still until you touch it.
Pick Fine dust in the menu and the sphere is rebuilt from nearly two hundred thousand much smaller dots (sixty thousand on a phone), so it looks more like smoke than sparkles.
